I have a like new, all black military version of this same model. The lower part is less flexible than the cuff around the ankle. Would not be a problem, BUT: The toes cracked open after just one vertical ice climb using step in, toe bail crampons. These were only used a couple of times for before the vertical ice climb. I would not trust these boots in any situation where you were likely to endure cold temps for any period to time, knowing they could crack open at any time. Certainly would not trust in the back country. Try getting out with your toes exposed and the boot filling with water!

It says it's handcrafted in Italy but it's actually made in Germany, that's not a big issue. The problem is this double plastic boots is very cold. It's supposed to be a mountaineering boots that can handle "extreme" conditions, hence the name "extreme". But I was climbing Mt.Whitney in February and I got frostbitten badly on all ten of my toes despite wearing two pairs of wool socks, the wind chill is about -20F. Another problem is it's hard to dry even if you put the inner boots in your sleep bag and you still wake up with a wet inner boots. If the snow is really deep, the snow WILL get to your inner boots even if I wear gaiters all the time, unless you get an overboots or supergaiter which I haven't tried yet.
On the positive side, this boots is built like a brick, you can front point all day all you want on hard waterfall ice and you're not gonna hurt the boots, I serious think the boots is bulletproof , this should be good for summer ascent or not too cold condition, but definitely not for "extreme" cold, which is the reason that I bought this boots in the first place.
