I wear these boots everyday all summer long for upwards of 18 plus hours. Its finally nice to find a pair that is comfortable and stable yet still has some flex. For the rigors of wildland fire, heat, ash, water, steeps, loose and uneven terrain these boots held up. I have been searching for a boot like this for sometime and I am ecstatic to have found this footwear. They can be a tad warm in hot temperatures. That is something to get adjusted to. Also I have seen better factory insoles in running shoes but that is to be expected. You really want to get a custom insole is you are truely gonna wear this boot for heavy loads and lots of hiking. Overall, I will purchase these again, and likely, love them all the same.

This is my wife's profile, so don't be misled by the name. I have worked in the woods as a forester for over 25 years and have owned all kinds of boots: White's, Hawthorn's, Buffalo's, and recently some Asolo mountaineering boots. I have only owned these boots for about a month and have not broken them in yet, so this is an early review.
The first thing I must say is that Amazon in incorrect in saying that these boots are Gore-tex. Scarpa makes no claim that they are and there is no indication on the boot or tags that they are. I knew this when I bought them and am fine with it, just thought others should know.
These boots are generally very stiff (more than a "hiking" boot) and I think they will work well off trail in the woods. They still have flex though, in the parts of the boots that have the black leather. This is different than the Asolo's that I have, which were completely stiff and took almost an entire summer to break in. I would not recommend this boot for casual hiking, as they do not have a lot of shock absorbsion under the foot. They are designed for support on uneven terrain, which is where I do all my work. As I mentioned, these boots take some breaking in, as a good, stiff boot should. I made the mistake of not duct taping my heels on an uphill hike and paid the price with a blister. I am sure this is just part of the break-in process, as I had to do the same with my Asolo's.
The other thing that I like about this boot so far is how high they are. My Asolo's are only 6 inches, these are closer to 8. One problem I had with my old boots was that rocks and debris came in through the top. I don't think this will be such a big problem with these.
Another feature I like is that the hooks extend down farther on the boot than any that I have owned before. The first 5 sets (from the top) are hooks, the last 4 are d-ring. This makes the boots very easy to take on and off.
Even though they are not Gore-tex, they are very water resistant at this point. I was walking around in wet grass for quite a while the other day and they stayed dry inside. I'm sure they will leak eventually, but I plan on using the recommended leather treatment to mitigate it. Gore-tex boots leak after a while as well.
I will update this post later in the summer as I get more use out of them.
UPDATE 11/2012: Well its almost winter now and I am updating this review. Unfortunately I had to give up on wearing these boots this summer, they just hurt too much. I think that their sizing runs a little small, because I wear a size 9 in everything else. The crappy thing is is that they feel good when I first put them on and even when I walk around for a while. I climbed steep hills and sidehilled. What really got me was going down hill, that is when my toes, particularly my small toes, got hammered. I kept thinking that they just needed more breaking in, but it never got better.
I still think that they are very good boots, and I intend on buying a bigger size to replace these. These come in european sizes, so size bigger is about 1/2 size or less bigger in american sizing. I can't return the ones I have and hope to be able to sell on Craig's List. I rated them lower because of the sizing and the extra $ it will cost me to get new ones, but the quality is still good.

These are the best mountaineering boots I have ever worn, and I've worn many! I have been a Gore-tex product tester and MountainTech for several years and I have tried several mountaineering boots. These are by no means the lightest pair of boots you will find but they offer incredible support, great versatility, warmth, and will keep your feet dry day after day in the mountains. I have recommended these boots to several friends and I hope they keep making them for many years to come! They fit me pretty true to size and are just the right width for those that don't have a super narrow or super wide foot.
